Σκοτεινοὶ ὀφθαλμοὶ οὐ πολύφρονας σημαίνουσιν ἄν- δρας· ξηροὶ δὲ ὄντες ἀνομωτέρους δηλοῦσιν, εἰ δὲ καὶ μικροί εἰσι θολεροί, ἐπιβούλους, κακοτέχνους, προβούλους. ὀφθαλμοὶ Matr. σκότιοι ὑγροὶ κοῖλοι αὐταρκως μεγέθους ἔχοντες εὐσταθῆ φροντιστήν, πολυθεάμονα, εὐμαθῆ, εὐλαβῆ καὶ δειλὸν καὶ φειδόμενον δηλοῦσιν , οἱ δὲ ἀγλυώδεις δολερούς, ἀπίστους, ἀκολάστους. Οἱ εὐφεγγεῖς ὀφθαλμοὶ ἄριστοί εἰσιν, εἰ μή τι ἄλλο ἀντι- λέγει σημεῖον· πάντα γὰρ ἀκριβῶς ἐπισκέπτεσθαι δεῖ τὰ σημεῖα.
