εὐνομωτάτους γενέσθαι καὶ Μαντινέας ἀκούω οὐδὲν ἧττον Λοκρῶν οὐδὲ Κρητῶν οὐδὲ Λακεδαιμονίων αὐτῶν οὐδʼ Ἀθηναίων· σεμνὸν γάρ τι χρῆμα καὶ τὸ Σόλωνος ἐγένετο, εἰ καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα Ἀθηναῖοι κατὰ μικρὰ τῶν νόμων τινὰς τῶν ἐξ αὐτοῦ γραφέν των αὐτοῖς διέφθειραν.
