Πιττακὸς ἐν Μυτιλήνῃ κατεσκεύασε ἐν τοῖς ἱεροῖς κλίμακας ἐς οὐδεμίαν μὲν χρῆσιν ἐπιτηδείους, αὐτὸ δὲ τοῦτο ἀναθήματα εἶναι, αἰνιττόμενος τὴν ἐκ τῆς τύχης ἄνω καὶ κάτω μετάπτωσιν, τρόπον τινὰ τῶν μὲν εὐτυχούντων ἀνιόντων, κατιόντων δὲ τῶν δυστυχούντων.
