Ὅροι ἠπείρων· Εὐρώπης μὲν καὶ Λιβύης αἱ Ἡρακλέους στῆλαι· Λιβύης δὲ καὶ Ἀσίας ὁ Νεῖλος, οἱ δὲ Ἰσθμὸν τὸν ἀπὸ Σαρβωνίδος λίμνης καὶ Ἀραβίου κόλπου. Ἀσίας δὲ καὶ Εὐρώπης οἱ μὲν ἀρχαῖοι λέγουσι Φάσιν ποταμὸν καὶ τὸν ἕως Κασπίας Ἰσθμὸν, τὸν ἀπὸ Σάρβω. οἱ δὲ ὕστερον νεώτεροι Μαιῶτιν λίμνην καὶ Τάναϊν ποταμόν.
