Σημείωσαι ὅτι ὁ Ἑρμογένης γένος μὲν ἦν Ταρσεύς, πατρὸς δὲ Εὐδαίμονος, μαθητὴς δὲ Σκοπελιανοῦ. Ῥητορικαὶ δὲ πέντε· πρώτη μὲν ᾗ ἐχρῆτο ὁ Θεμιστοκλῆς καὶ ὁ Κίμων, δευτέρα δέ, ᾗ ἐχρῆτο Πυθαγόρας, τρίτη ᾗ χρώμεθα ἡμεῖς, τῇ Δημοσθενικῇ, τετάρτη ἡ κολακευτική, πέμπτη ἡ συκοφαντική.
