Πρὸς δὲ τὸν νότον ἢ τὰ νότια μέρη πορρωτάτω ὑπὲρ τὴν εὔγειον Θρᾴκην καὶ τὴν Ὠρικίαν χώραν ἡ τῆς Ἑλλάδος ἀρχὴ κατὰ πολὺ ἀνερχομένη προσεγγίζει, διπλῇ θαλάσσῃ διεζωσμένη ἢ περιεχομένη, τῇ Αἰγαίᾳ δηλονότι καὶ τῇ Σικελικῇ. ἄνεμον δὲ ἑκάστη ἔλαβεν, ἡ μὲν Σικελικὴ τὸν ἐσπέριον ἢ δυτικὸν, ὃν καὶ ζέφυρον καλοῦσιν, ἡ δὲ Αἰγαία τὸν εὖρον.
