Ἔμπροσθεν δὲ ταῦ Ἰσθμοῦ ὡς πρὸς ἀνατολὰς ἡ Ἀττικὴ γῆ ἐστιν, ὃ ἔστιν αἱ Ἀθῆναι· ἀνὰ μέσον δὲ τῶνδε κατέρχεται ὁ θεῖος ποταμὸς Ἰλισσὸς, ὅτου καὶ ὁ Βορρᾶς ποτε ὁ τῆς Θρᾴκης βασιλεὺς ἥρπασε τὴν Ὠρείθυιαν. Ἐπὶ ταύτῃ δὲ τῇ Ἀττικῇ ἡ τῶν Βοιωτῶν χώρα ἐστὶ καὶ τῶν Λοκρῶν ἠροτριασμένη γῆ. Μετὰ τοὺς Βοιωτοὺς δὲ καὶ τοὺς Λοκροὺς ἡ Θεσσαλία καὶ αἱ πόλεις τῆς Μακεδονίας εἰσίν. Ἐπὶ ταύταις δὲ πάλιν φαίνονται αἱ κορυφαὶ τοῦ χιονώδους Αἵμου τοῦ Θρᾳκικοῦ ὄρους.
