477—480. Πφὸς δὲ τὸν νότον ὑπὲρ τοῦ Σικελικοῦ πορθμοῦ ἐστιν ἡ Λιβυκὴ θάλασσα καὶ ἡ ἀρχὴ τῆς ἑτέρας, ἤγουν τῆς μείζονος Σύρτιδος. Ἐὰν δὲ ἐπὶ τὰ ἔμπροσθεν περάσῃς, καὶ τὴν ἑτέραν τὴν μικρὰν δυτικωτέραν οὖσαν κατόψει· ἦστινος ἔμπροσθέν εἰσι δύο νησίδια, ἥ τι Μῆνιγξ καὶ τὰ Κέρκινα, ὑπὸ τῆς Λιβύης τὸν ὅρμον, ἤγουν τὸν λιμένα καὶ τὴν πορείαν, ἔχουσαι.
