Ἀπὸ δὲ τῶν ὑψηλῶν καὶ τραχέων αὐτῆς ὀρῶν πρὸς τὴν ἀνατολὴν τοῦ ἀπείρου, ἤτοι μεγίστου, ποταμοῦ Εὐφράτου ὁ ῥοῦς φαίνεται, ὅστις δὴ Εὐφράτης πρῶτον μὲν ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἀρμενίου ὄρους μακρὸς ἐπὶ νότον πορεύεται, πάλιν δὲ τοὺς ἀγκῶνας συστρέψας, ἐξεναντίας τοῦ ἡλίου πορευόμενος, μέσον τῆς Βαβυλῶνος περάσας εἰς τὸν Περσικὸν κόλπον τὸν ἀφρὸν αὑτοῦ ἀπερεύγεται, ταῖς ἐσχάταις ἐκβολαῖς ἐγγὺς τῆς Τερηδόνος ὁδεύων,
