Πρὸ τῆϲ οὖν κατὰ μέροϲ αὐτῶν ἐξετάϲεωϲ διαληπτέον καθολικώτερον περὶ τῆϲ διαφορᾶϲ τῶν ὀρθοτονουμένων πρὸϲ τὰϲ ἐγκλιτικάϲ. περί τε τῶν μόνωϲ ὀρθοτονουμένων, καὶ διὰ τί, καὶ τῶν μόνωϲ ἐγκλινομένων, τῶν τε εἰϲ ἄμφω τοὺϲ τόνουϲ παραλαμβανομένων, καθ᾿ οὓϲ τρόπουϲ ὀρθοτονηθήϲονται.
