(169) ἄρχεται δὲ ὁ μὲν ἄρρην ὀχεύειν γενόμενος ἐνιαυσιαῖος, ἡ δὲ θήλεια βαίνεται ὀκταμηνιαία. ἐπιβαίνει δὲ ὁ μὲν ἄρρην πᾶσαν ὥραν, ἡ δὲ θήλεια οὐ ?? πᾶσαν ὥραν, ἀλλὰ τὴν τῆς σκυζήσεως. ὅταν δ᾿ ἄρχηται σκυζᾶν, ἡ μὲν φύσις αὐτῇ διοιδεῖ, τὰ δὲ καταμήνια ῥεῖ ἐπὶ ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας. εἶτα μετὰ ταύτας ἄλλας ἑπτὰ σκυζᾷ. λέγεται δὲ ὡς πολυδρομήσαντες οἱ κύνες πολὺ μᾶλλον ὀχευτικώτεροι γίνονται.
