(17) ἡ δὲ ἄνω κοιλία ὁμοία ἐστὶ τῇ κυνείᾳ κοιλίαι οὐ γὰρ πολλῷ τοῦ ἐντέρου ἡμῶν εὐρυτέρα ἐστίν, ἀλλ᾿ οἷον ἔντερον εὖρος ἔχον ἐστί. διὰ δὲ τὸ τοιαύτην ἔχειν ἡμᾶς τὴν ἄνω κοιλίαν μόνος ὁ ἄνθρωπος καὶ ὁ κύων ἐμεῖ. στενῆς γὰρ οὔσης καὶ ὀρθῆς καὶ κόλπον μὴ ἐχούσης, ἡ ἐπάνοδος ἡ τῶν σιτίων κατ᾿ εὐθυπορίαν ἐπὶ τὸν στόμαχον εὐκόπως παραγίνεται· τοῖς δὲ ἔχουσιν εὐρείας καὶ σκολιὰς τὰς κοιλίας οὐ ῥᾳδίως συμβαίνει.
