(268) Δέδοικε δὲ πάρδαλις κρανίον τὸ φυτόν, καθάπερ δὴ καὶ πρῖνον ὁ λέων, καὶ ἀπόσχοιτο ἂν ἀνδρὸς αὕτη ῥόπαλον ἐκ τοῦδε φέροντος τοῦ φυτοῦ. (269) Εἰσί γε μὴν κατὰ τὴν Ἰνδίαν παρδάλεις ξανθαί τε καὶ κυαναῖ καὶ μέλαιναι καὶ λευκαί, πάσας δὲ γραμμαί τινες εὔκυκλοί τε καὶ μέλαιναι περιβάλλουσιν. (270) Ἡ δὲ καμηλοπάρδαλις μίξις τις εἶναι δοκεῖ καὶ αὐτὴ δύο θηρῶν, ἐς ταὐτὸ συνελθόντων, καμήλου τε καὶ παρδάλεως.
