(63) Ἔσιν οὖν τὸ μὲν τοῦ ἄρρενος σπέρμα τὸ οἱονεὶ δημιουργὸν καὶ ἀρχὴν κινήσεως ἐμποιοῦν, καθάπερ ἐπὶ τῆς πυτίας ὁρῶμεν τῆς συναγούσης τὸ γάλα· οὕτως γὰρ καὶ τὸ σπέρμα πεσὸν εἰς τὰς ὑστέρας μίγνυται τῷ καθαρωτάτῳ τῆς θηλείας περιττώματι οὐ γὰρ πᾶσα ἡ αἱματικὴ τῆς θηλείας ἀπόκρισις πρὸς τὸ ζῳογονῆσαι χρήσιμός ἐστι ἀλλά τις. κατὰ τοῦτο οὖν λέγομεν συμβάλλεσθαι τὸ θῆλυ, οὐχ ὅτι σπέρμα ἀφίησιν, ἀλλὰ καθ’ ὅσον ὕλης τόπον ἐπέχει, καθάπερ χαλκὸς τῷ ἀνδριαντοπλάστῃ.
