4 Τὰς δὲ καλουμένας ἶνας τὸ μὲν ἔχει αἷμα τὸ δʼ οὐκ ἔχεε, οἷον τὸ τῶν ἐλάφρων καὶ προκῶν. διόπερ οὐ πήγνυται τὸ τοιοῦτον αἷμα· τοὺ γὰρ αἵματος τὸ μὲν ὑδατῶδες μᾶλλον ψυχρὸν ἐστι, διὸ καὶ οὐ πήγνυται, τὸ δὲ γεῶδες πήγνυται συνεξατμίζοντος τού ὑγροῦ· αἱ δʼ ἶνες γῆς εἰσίν.
