Οἶδα σου τὰ ἔργα. Φεύγει τὸν ἐν τῇ πίστει ἀμελῶς ζῆν προελόμενον. ὁ μὲν γὰρ ψυχρὸς, καὶ τῆς ζώσης πίστεως ἄγευστος, ἐν ἐλπίδι πολλάκις ἔσται τοῦ τυχεῖν αὐτῆς, ὁ δὲ ζέσας διὰ τοῦ βαπτίσματος Πνεύματι, καὶ ἀποψυχθεὶς διὰ ῥαθυμίας ὕστερον ἑαυτῷ τὰς ἐλπίδα; τῆς σωτηρίας ἐξέκοψεν, καταγνοὺς τῆς αἱρεθείσης πίστεως· ἔργοις μὲν γὰρ οὐκ ἀπογνωστέα η μεσότης, ὡσπερ ο ἔννομος γάμος μέσος ὣν παρθενίας καὶ ἀκολασίας οὐκ ἀπόβλητος· ἐν δὲ τῇ πίστει τὸ μέσον καὶ χλιαρὸν ἀδόκιμον, ὁμοίως καὶ ὁ ἐν ἐρήμῳ ζῆν προελόμενος μὴ ἀκριβῶς δὲ ζῶν, καταγνωστέος εἰκότως, ὡς ἐγγὺς ὣν τοῦ ἀποψυχθέντος.
