Ἀπολώλεκας, ὦ Λεωνᾶ. Σύ μοι τῶν κακῶν αἴτιος. Πῦρ ἐκόμισας εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν, μᾶλλον δὲ εἰς τὴν ἐμὴν ψυχήν. Ταράσσει δέ με τὸ ἄδηλον τὸ περὶ τῆς γυναικός. Μῦθόν μοι διηγῇ ἔμπορον πτηνόν, ὃν οὐκ οἶδας οὔτ’ ὁπόθεν ἦλθεν οὔθ’ ὅποι πάλιν ἀπῆλθεν. Ἔχων δὲ τίς τοιοῦτον κάλλος ἐν ἐρημίᾳ πιπράσκει ταλάντου τὴν τῶν βασιλέως χρημάτων ἀξίαν; δαίμων σέ τις ἐξηπάτησεν.
