ἣν σὺ πλεῖς.” Ταῦτα λέγουσα περιέρρηξε τὸ στῆθος καὶ προτείνουσα τὰς θηλὰς· “τέκνον” φησί, τάδ’ αἴδεο καί μ’ ἐλέησον αὐτήν, εἴ ποτέ τοι λαθικηδέα μαζὸν ἐπέσχον. Κατεκλάσθη Χαιρέας πρὸς τὰς τῶν γονέων ἱκεσίας καὶ ἔρριψεν ἑαυτὸν ἀπὸ τῆς νεὼς εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, ἀποθανεῖν θέλων, ἵνα φύγῃ δυοῖν θάτερον, ἢ τὸ μὴ ζητεῖν Καλλιρρόην ἢ τὸ λυπῆσαι τοὺς γονεῖς· ταχέως δὲ ἀπορρίψαντες οἱ ναῦται μόλις αὐτὸν ἀνεκούφισαν.
