Εἰ καὶ ζῶντες ἀλλήλων οὐκ ἀπελαύσαμεν, ἀποθανόντες ἀλλήλους ἕξομεν.” Τούτων τῶν λόγων ἀκούσας ὁ Διονύσιος ποικίλας ἐλάμβανε γνώμας· ἥπτετο μὲν γὰρ αὐτοῦ ζηλοτυπία διότι καὶ νεκρὸν ἐφίλει Χαιρέαν, ἥπτετο δὲ καὶ φόβος μὴ ἑαυτὴν ἀποκτείνῃ· ἐθάρρει δ’ ὅμως ὅτι ὁ πρῶτος ἀνὴρ ἐδόκει τεθνηκέναι τῇ γυναικί· μὴ γὰρ ἀπολείψειν αὐτὴν Διονύσιον, οὐκ ὄντος ἔτι Χαιρέου.
