Ἡμέρας οὖν φανείσης οἱ μὲν ὑπηρέται τὸ βασιλικὸν ἡτοίμαζον δικαστήριον· τὸ δὲ πλῆθος συνέτρεχεν ἐπὶ τὰ βασίλεια, καὶ ἐδονεῖτο πᾶσα Βαβυλών. Ὥσπερ δὲ ἐν Ὀλυμπίοις τοὺς ἀθλητὰς ἔστι θεάσασθαι παραγινομένους ἐπὶ τὸ στάδιον μετὰ παραπομπῆς, οὕτω δὴ κἀκείνους. Τὸ μὲν δοκιμώτατον Περσῶν πλῆθος παρέπεμπε Διονύσιον, ὁ δὲ δῆμος Χαιρέαν.
