Συνευχαὶ δὲ καὶ ἐπιβοήσεις μυρίαι τῶν σπευδόντων ἑκατέροις, ἐπευφημούντων “σὺ κρείττων, σὺ νικᾷς.” Ἦν δὲ τὸ ἆθλον οὐ κότινος, οὐ μῆλα, οὐ πίτυς, ἀλλὰ κάλλος τὸ πρῶτον, ὑπὲρ οὗ δικαίως ἂν ἤρισαν καὶ θεοί. Βασιλεὺς δὲ καλέσας τὸν εὐνοῦχον Ἆρταξάτην, ὃς ἦν αὐτῷ μέγιστος, “ὄναρ μοὶ” φησὶν “ἐπιστάντες βασίλειοι θεοὶ θυσίαν ἀπαιτοῦσι καὶ δεῖ με πρῶτον ἐκτελέσαι τὰ τῆς εὐσεβείας.
