Γνώτωσαν οὖν πόσον Ἕλληνες Φοινίκων διαφέρουσιν. Ἐγὼ δὲ οὐκ ἐπιθυμῶ στρατηγίας, ἀλλ’ ἕτοιμος ἀκολουθεῖν ὅστις ἂν ὑμῶν ἄρχειν θέλῃ· πειθόμενον γὰρ εὑρήσει, ἐπεὶ καὶ δόξης οὐκ ἐμῆς ἀλλὰ κοινῆς ὀρέγομαι.” Πάντες ἐπεβόησαν “σὺ στρατήγει βουλομένων.” Ἔφη “Στρατηγῶ καὶ τὴν ἀρχήν μοι ὑμεῖς δεδώκατε·
