Τῆς δὲ αὐτῆς ἡμέρας καὶ κατὰ γῆν καὶ κατὰ θάλασσαν ἡ μάχη συνήφθη. Χρόνον μὲν οὖν πολὺν ἀντέσχεν ἡ πεζὴ στρατιὰ τῶν Αἰγυπτίων Μήδοις τε καὶ Πέρσαις, εἶτα πλήθει βιασθέντες ἐνέδωκαν. Καὶ βασιλεὺς δὲ ἔφιππος διώκων Σπουδὴ δὲ ἦν τοῦ Αἰγυπτίου καταφυγεῖν εἰς Πηλούσιον, τοῦ δὲ Πέρσου θᾶττον καταλαβεῖν· τάχα δ’ ἂν καὶ διέφυγεν, εἰ μὴ Διονύσιος ἔργον θαυμαστὸν ἐπεδείξατο.
