Θαλῆς, ἐρωτηθεὶς τί πρεσβύτατον τῶν ὄντων, ἀπεκρίνατο· Θεός, ἀγέννητον γάρ. Σωκράτης, ἐρωτηθεὶς τί θεός, εἶπε· Τὸ ἀθάνατον καὶ ἀίδιον. Ἑρμῆς, ἐρωτηθεὶς τί θεός, εἶπεν· Ὁ τῶν ὅλων δημιουργός, σοφώτατος νοῦς καὶ ἀίδιος.
