Ξύλον τετράγωνον ἔχον ἑκάστην πλευρὰν ἀνὰ πηχῶν ι΄. εὑρεῖν αὐτοῦ τὴν διαγώνιον· ποίει οὕτως· τὰ ι΄ ἐφʼ ἑαυτὰ γίνονται ρ΄. ταῦτα δὶς γίνονται σ΄· ὧν πλευρὰ τετράγωνος γίνεται ιδ΄ ζ″· τοσούτων ἔσται πηχῶν ἡ διαγώνιος.
