Ξύλον τετράγωνον παραλληλόγραμμον, οὗ τὸ μὲν μῆκος πηχῶν ιβ΄, τὸ δὲ πλάτος πηχῶν ε΄. εὑρεῖν αὐτοῦ τὴν διαγόνιον· ποίει οὕτως· τὰ ιβ΄ τοῦ μήκους ἐφʼ ἑαυτὰ γίνονται ρμδ΄· καὶ τὰ ε΄ τοῦ πλάτους ἐφʼ ἑαυτὰ γίνονται κε΄· ὁμοῦ ρξθ΄· ὧν πλευρὰ τετράγωνος γίνεται ιγ΄· τοσούτων ἔσται πηχῶν ἡ διαγώνιος.
