γίγνονται δὲ καὶ ὄφεις ὑφʼ ἡδονῆς ποικίλοι καὶὀλέθριοι καὶ ἄλλʼ ἄττα ἑρπετά, καὶ θεραπεύουσιν ἐκείνην ἀεὶ περὶ τὰς θύρας ὄντες καὶ ἐπιθυμοῦντες μὲν τῆς ἡδονῆς καὶ λατρεύοντες ἐκείνῃ, μυρίους δὲ ἄλλως πόνους ἔχοντες. ἡ γὰρ ἡδονὴ κρατήσασα αὐτῶν καὶ παραλαβοῦσα τοῖς πόνοις παραδίδωσι τοῖς ἐχθίστοις καὶ χαλεπωτάτοις.
