Μὴ ἀνιῷ πρὸς τοὺς συνήθεις, ’Ολυμπιάς, ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ, ὅτι τρίβωνα ἀμπέχομαι καὶ ἄλφιτα ἐπιπωλούμενος ἀνθρώπους μεταιτῶ· οὐ γάρ ἐστι ταῦτα αἰσχρὰ οὐδ’ ἐλευθέροις, ὡς φής, ὑποπτα, καλὰ δὲ καὶ οἷα ὅπλα εἶναι κατὰ δοξῶν τῶν πολεμουσῶν τῷ βίῳ. κἀγὼ ταῦτα ἔμαθον οὐ παρὰ Ἀντισθένους πρώτου τὰ μαθή ματα, ἀλλὰ θεῶν καὶ ἡρώων καὶ τῶν τὴν Ἑλλάδα ἐπεστροφότων ἐπὶ σοφίαν, ’Ομήρου καὶ τῶν τραγῳδοποιῶν,
