Ἀχνυμένη σκυτάλη: ἐπὶ τῶν λυπηρὰς ἀγγελίας ἀγγελλόντων. Ἐπὶ ξύλου γὰρ ἔθος ἦν εἱλοῦντας τὸ γραφὲν, εἶτ’ ἀφειλοῦντας, οἷς ἐβούλοντο, πέμπειν· οἱ δὲ δεχόμενοι, ἴσῃ σκυτάλῃ ἐφειλοῦντες ἀνεγίνωσκον τὸ γραμματεῖον.
