139 καυκαλίς, ἔνιοι δὲ δαῦκον ἄγριον καλοῦσι. καυλίον ἐστὶ σπιθαμιαῖον, ὑπόδασυ, φύλλα ἔχον μαράθῳ ὅμοια, λεπτοσχιδῆ, δασέα, καὶ ἐπ᾿ ἄκρου σκιάδιον λευκόν, εὐῶδες. λαχανεύεται δὲ καὶ τοῦτο ἑχθόν τε καὶ ὠμὸν ἐσθιόμενον· ἔστι δὲ οὐρητικόν.
