Quis non dixit, Εὔπολιν τὸν τῆς ἀρχαίας, ab Alcibiade, navigante in Siciliam, dejectum esse in mare? Redarguit Eratosthenes (p. 229 ed. Bernhardy): affert enim, quas ille post id tempus fabulas docuerit. Num idcirco Duris Samius, homo in historia diligens, quod cum multis erravit, irridetur? Ἀνδοκίδου Ἑρμῆς. Αἰσχίνης ἐν τῷ Κατὰ Τιμάρχου (§ 125)· «Ἔπειτα τὸν Ἑρμῆν τὸν Ἀνδοκίδου καλούμενον οὐκ Ἀνδοκίδου ἀλλ ̓ Αἰγηίδος φυλῆς εἶναι ἀνάθημα.» Καὶ αὐτὸς Ἀνδοκίδης ἐν τῷ Περὶ τὼν μυστηρίων ὅτι τῆς Αἰγηίδος εἴη τὸ ἀνάθημα εἴρηκεν, ὥστε ὁ Δοῦρις αὐτοσχεδιάζει Ἀνδοκίδου αὐτὸ εἶναι λέγων.
