Ὅτι πέτραι τινὲς Μηδικαὶ τὸν ναρκισσίτην φύουσι λίθον, ὃν καὶ ἀφεγγέα καλεῖ, ὡς ναρκίσσῳ τῷ φυτῷ ἐοικότα τὴν χρόαν, καὶ μὴ διαυγάζοντα. Λέγει δὲ καὶ τὰ ποίμνια καλὰ εἶναι τοῖς Μήδοις, ἅδην βεβριθότα μαλλοῖς. Καὶ ὅρα ὅτι τὸ ἅδην δι' ἑνὸς δ καὶ οὗτος ὁμοίως Ὁμήρῳ ἐξήνεγκεν, ὃ καὶ δασύνουσιν οἱ Ἀττικοὶ, ταὐτὸν ὂν τῷ ἅλις. Διὸ καί τις ἔφη, «ἀλλὰ τούτων μὲν ἅδην,» ἀντὶ τοῦ ἅλις.
