Ὅτι τὴν Κάνωβον πόλιν περιφράζων οὕτω φησί· «τέμενος περίπυστον Ἀμυκλαίοιο Κανώβου», τουτέστιν αὐτὴ ἡ πόλις ἡ Κάνωβος. Οὕτω καὶ κατωτέρω θέλων εἰπεῖν ἐν μιᾷ λέξει ὠκεανός, φησὶ περιφραστικῶς «ἀκαμάτου ῥόος ὠκεανοῖο», ἤγουν αὐτὸς ὁ ὠκεανός. Τέμενος δὲ Κανώβου οἱονεὶ ἱερὸν ἢ τόπος τῷ Κανώβῳ ἰδιόκτητος.
