Ὅτι τὸ «σύρεται ὁ Τάναϊς ἐς Σκυθίην καὶ ἐς Μαιώτιδα λίμνην», καὶ τὸ «συρόμενος Λιβύηθεν» καὶ τὰ τοιαῦτα ὡς ἐπὶ ὄφεων εἴρηται τροπικῶς, οἷα τῶν ποταμῶν ὀφεωδῶς πως ἑλισσομένων. Τοιοῦτον δὲ καὶ τὸ «πόντος ὁλκὸν ἑλίσσων»· κυρίως γὰρ ὁλκὸς τὸ σῶμα τοῦ ὄφεως.
