Ὅτι πόλις Φοινίκης Ἰόπη, κληθεῖσα οὕτως ἢ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰοῦς ἢ ἀπὸ Ἰόπης, θυγατρὸς μὲν Αἰόλου, γυναικὸς δὲ Κηφέως, ἀφ' οὗ καὶ Κηφῆνες οἱ Αἰθίοπες. Ὅτι Γάζα πάλαι μὲν Φοινίκης, νῦν δὲ Παλαιστίνης. Ἐκλήθη δέ ποτε καὶ Ἄζα, ἢ ἀπὸ Ἄζωνος υἱοῦ Ἡρακλέος, ἢ ὅτι Ζεὺς κτίσας αὐτὴν ἀπέλιπεν αὐτόθι τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γάζαν· καλοῦσι δὲ οὕτως οἱ Πέρσαι τὰ χρήματα. Ὅτι Ἐλαῒς πόλις Φοινίκης οὕτω λέγεται διὰ τὸ ἐλαιοφόρος εἶναι.
