[ι΄. Περὶ ἀσφάλτου γεννωμένου ἐν τῇ νεκρᾷ θαλάσσῃ.] Καλλίστη δ’ ἄσφαλτος γεννᾶται κατὰ τὴν νεκρὰν ὀνομαζομένην θάλασσαν. ἔστι δ’ αὐτὴ λίμνη τις ἁλμυρὰ κατὰ τὴν κοίλην Συρίαν. ἡ δὲ δύναμις τοῦ φαρμάκου ξηραντική τ’ ἐστὶ καὶ θερμαντικὴ κατὰ τὴν δευτέραν που τάξιν. εἰκότως οὖν αὐτῷ χρῶνται πρός γε τὰς κολλήσεις τῶν ἐναίμων τραυμάτων πρὸς τἄλλα, ὅσα ξηραίνειν δεόμενα μετὰ τοῦ θερμῆναι μετρίως.
