[ια΄. Περὶ μεσπίλου.] Μέσπιλον ἐνίοτε τρίκοκκον ὀνομάζουσιν, ὅτι τρεῖς ἔχει τοὺς πάντας κόκκους ἔνδον αὑτοῦ, σπέρμα δέ ἐστιν ἕκαστος αὐτῶν τοῦ δένδρου, καθάπερ καὶ τὰ ἐν τοῖς μήλοις εὑρισκόμενα τῆς μηλέας καὶ τὰ γίγαρτα τῆς ἀμπέλου καὶ κεγχραμίδες τῆς συκῆς. στρυφνὸς ἱκανῶς ὁ καρπὸς τοῦ δένδρου καὶ μόγις ἐδώδιμος, ἐφεκτικὸς ἱκανῶς τῆς γαστρός. ἔστι δὲ κᾀν τοῖς βλαστοῖς αὐτοῦ κᾀν τοῖς φύλλοις ἡ στρυφνὴ ποιότης οὐκ ὀλίγη.
