Ἀντιφῶν Ἀληθείας β καῖον γὰρ τὴν γῆν καὶ συντῆκον γρυπάνιον ποιεῖ. καὶ Μελάνθιος ἐν β Ἀτθίδος εἰπὼν σεισμὸν γεγονέναι φησὶ καὶ ἔγρυπεν ἡ γῆ. Διονύσιος μὲν οὖν ὁ τοῦ Τρύφωνος ἐν δ Ὀνομάτων γρυπαίνειν ἐστὶ φησὶ τὸ γρυποῦσθαι, οἷον τὰ ἁπαλὰ ξυλήφια ὅταν κάμψαντες ἀφῶμεν. μήποτε δ᾽ ἐμφαίνουσιν οἱ συγγραφεῖς ὡς γινομένης κατὰ τοὺς σεισμοὺς γρυπότητός τινος περὶ τὴν γῆν.
