Λυσίας ἐν τῷ κατὰ Μόσχου. ἄρχων τις ἦν ὁ δήμαρχος· οὗτοι δὲ τὰς ἀπογραφάς ἐποιοῦντο τῶν ἐν ἑκάστῳ δήμῳ χωρίων. ἔτι δὲ καὶ τὰ ληξιαρχικὰ γραμματεῖα παρὰ τούτοις ἦν, καὶ συνῆγον τοὺς δήμους ὁπότε δεήσειεν, καὶ ψῆφον αὐτοῖς ἐδίδοσαν. τούτους δέ φησιν Ἀριστοτέλης ἐν Ἀθηναίων πολιτείᾳ ὑπὸ Κλεισθένους κατασταθῆναι, τὴν αὐτὴν ἔχοντας ἐπιμέλειαν τοῖς πρότερον ναυκράροις. ὅτι δὲ ἠνεχυρίαζον οἱ δήμαρχοι δηλοῖ Ἀριστοφάνης ἐν Σκηνὰς καταλαμβανούσαις.
