Τὸ δὲ ἐμβαδὸν εὑρεῖν. οὕτως· πολλαπλασίαζε ἀεὶ τὸ U+2220ʹ τῆς βάσεως ἐπὶ τὴν κάθετον ἤγουν τὴν πρὸς ὀρθὰς ἢ τὸ U+2220ʹ τῆς πρὸς ὀρθὰς ἐπὶ τὴν βάσιν, καὶ τὸ ἀπὸ τοῦδε συναγόμενον γίνωσκε εἶναι τὸ ἐμβαδὸν τοῦ ὀρθογωνίου τριγώνου. οἷον ἔστω τρίγωνον ὀρθογώνιον, οὗ ἡ βάσις σχοινίων κ, ἡ κάθετος ἤγουν ἡ πρὸς ὀρθὰς σχοινίων ιε καὶ ἡ ὑποτείνουσα κε· εὑρεῖν οὖν τὸ ἐμβαδόν. ποίει οὕτως· τὸ U+2220ʹ τῆς βάσεως ἤγουν τὰ ῑ ἐπὶ τὰ τῆς καθέτου τὰ ιε· γίνονται ρν· τοσούτων σχοινίων ἐστὶ τὸ ἐμβαδόν. ὧν τὸ U+2220΄· γίνονται οε· καὶ ἔστι γῆς μοδίων οε.
