Ἔστω τετράγωνον ἰσόπλευρόν τε καὶ ἰσογώνιον καὶ ἐχέτω ἑκάστην πλευρὰν ποδῶν ν´· εὑρεῖν αὐτοῦ τὸ ἐμβαδὸν καὶ τὴν διαγώνιον· ποιῶ οὕτως· τὰ ν´ ἐφ᾿ ἑαυτὰ γίνονται ,βφί· ἔσται τὸ ἐμβαδὸν τοσούτων. τὴν δὲ διαγώνιον εὑρεῖν· δὶς τὸ ἐμβαδὸν ε· ὧν πλευρὰ τετραγωνικὴ γίνεται πόδες ο´ Ϲ δ˝· τοσούτου ἐστὶν ἡ διαγώνιος.
