Τρίγωνον ὀρθογώνιον, οὗ ἡ μὲν κάθετος ποδῶν λ´, ἡ δὲ βάσις ποδῶν μ´ · εὑρεῖν αὐτοῦ τὸ ἐμβαδόν· ποιῶ οὕτως· τὴν βάσιν ἐπὶ τὴν κάθετον γίνονται πόδες ,ασ´· ὧν Ϲ γίνονται πόδες χ´· ἔσται τὸ ἐμβαδὸν ποδῶν χ´. εὑρεῖν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν ὑποτείνουσαν· τὰ λ´ τῆς καθέτου ἐφ᾿ ἑαυτὰ γίνονται Ϡ´· καὶ τὰ μ´ τῆς βάσεως ἐφ᾿ ἑαυτὰ γίνονται αχ´· ὁμοῦ πόδες ,βφ´· ὧν πλευρά τετραγωνικὴ γίνεται ν´.
