Ἔστω τρίγωνον ὀρθογώνιον ἕτερον καὶ ἐχέτω τὴν μὲν βάσιν ποδῶν μ´, τὴν δὲ ὑποτείνουσαν ποδῶν μα´ · εὑρεῖν αὐτοῦ τὸ ἐμβαδὸν καὶ τὴν κάθετον· ποιῶ οὕτως· τὰ μα΄ ἐφʼ ἑαυτὰ γίνονται ,αχπα΄. καὶ τὰ μ΄ ἐφʼ ἑαυτὰ γίνονται ,αχ΄· ταῦτα ὑφαιρῶ ἀπὸ τῶν ,αχπα΄ ποδῶν· λοιπὸν μένουσι πόδες πα΄· ὧν πλευρὰ τετραγωνικὴ γίνεται πόδες θ΄. νῦν ποιῶ τὴν κάθετον ἐπὶ τὴν βάσιν· γίνονται τξ΄· ὧν τὸ Ϲ γίνονται πόδες ρπ΄· ἔσται τὸ ἐμβαδὸν ποδῶν ρπ΄.
