λδ. Ἔστω δὲ ἔλλειψιν μετρῆσαι, ἧς ὁ μὲν μείζων ἄξων μονάδων ιϛ, ὁ δὲ ἐλάσσων ιβ. ἐπεὶ οὖν ἐν τοῖς κωνοειδέσιν Ἀρχιμήδους δείκνυται (c. 5 t. l p. 312 Heib.) ὅτι τὸ ὑπὸ τῶν ἀξόνων δύναται κύκλον ἴσον τῇ ἐλλείψει, δεήσει τὰ ιϛ ἐπὶ τὰ ιβ πολλαπλασιάσαντα τούτων λαβεῖν τὰ ια ιδ΄· ἔστι δὲ ρμϛU+2220· τοσούτου ἀποφαίνεσθαι τὸ ἐμβαδὸν τῆς ἐλλείψεως.
