ἐς τὴν τιμωρίαν. παρὰ τοσοῦτον μὲν δὴ Μακρῖνος οὐκ ἐξέφυγε τοὺς διώξαντας, τέλει τε ἐχρήσατο αἰσχρῷ ὕστερον θελήσας ἐς τὴν Ῥώμην ἀνελθεῖν, δέον ἐν ἀρχῇ τοῦτο ποιῆσαι: ὁμοῦ δὲ ἔπταισε καὶ γνώμῃ καὶ τύχῃ. τέλει μὲν δη τοιούτῳ Μακρῖνος ἐχρήσατο, συναναιρεθέντος αὐτῷ καὶ τοῦ παιδός, ὃν ἦν ποιήσας
