5. Ὁκόταν τὰ κοῖλα φλέβια τὰ διέχοντα ἐν τῷ πλεύμονι πλησθῇ αἵματος ἢ χολῆς μελαίνης, ξυῤῥήξῃ τε τὰ φλέβια ἐς ἄλληλα, ἅτε ἐν στενοῖσιν ἐόντα καὶ ἐπειλημμένα καὶ ἔξοδον οὐκ ἔχοντα, ὀδύνην παρέχει καὶ φῦσαν ἐν τῷ πλεύμονἶ. Αὕτη ἡ νοῦσος χαλεπὴ καὶ θεραπηΐης δεομένη πολλῆς· εἰ δὲ μὴ, οὐκ ἐθέλει ἐκλιπεῖν τὸν κάμνοντα, καὶ ὡς τὰ πολλὰ ἐν τοῖσι πολλοῖσι ξυναποθνήσκει.
