Τὸ "γενηθήτω στερέωμα ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ ὕδατος" οὐ μεταξὺ λέγει τοῦ κάτω ὕδατος τὴν τοῦ στερεώματος γενέσθαι φύσιν, ὡς Ἰώσηπος ὁ Ἑβραῖος ἐν τῷ περὶ τῆς τοῦ παντὸς αἰτίας συγγράμματι βούλεται, εἰς τρία λέγων διῃρῆσθαι τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ τὸ μὲν τρίτον αὐτοῦ εἰς γένεσιν συμπαγῆναι τοῦ στερεώματος, τὸ δὲ τρίτον ἐναπομεῖναι κάτω, τὸ δὲ λοιπὸν τρίτον ἐν τοῖς νοτίοις εἰς ὕψος συνανακουφισθῆναι τῷ στερεώματι.
