Αἰγεὺς, ἀγγελθέντος αὐτῷ ψεύδους, ὅτι ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ Θησεὺς ὑπὸ Μινωταύρου ὤλετο, ἔρριψεν ἑαυτὸν εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ ἐκλήθη ὁ τόπος Αἰγαῖος.
