Ἦ γὰρ τοῦτο οὐκ ἂν εἶπεν Ἡσαΐας· Καὶ εἰ μὴ κύριος σαβαὼθ ἐγκατέλιπεν ἡμῖν σπέρμα, ὡς Σόδομα ἂν καὶ Γόμορρα ἐγενήθημεν [ΙS., I, 9]· καὶ Ἰεζεκιήλ· ὅτι Κἂν Νῶε καὶ Ἰακὼβ καὶ Δανιὴλ ἐξαιτήσωνται υἱοὺς ἢ θυγατέρας, οὐ μὴ δοθῇ αὐτοῖς· ἀλλ᾿ οὔτε πατὴρ ὑπὲρ υἱοῦ οὔτε υἱὸς ὑπὲρ πατρός, ἀλλ᾿ ἕκαστος τῇ ἁμαρτίᾳ αὐτοῦ ἀπολεῖται καὶ ἕκαστος τῇ ἑαυτοῦ δικαιοπραξίᾳ σωθήσεται [cf. EZ., XIV, 14-20; XVIII. 4, 20; et Deut., XXIV, 26]· καὶ πάλιν Ἡσαΐας· Ὄψονται τὰ κῶλα τῶν παραβεβηκότων· ὁ σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ παυθήσεται, καὶ τὸ πῦρ αὐτῶν οὐ σβεσθήσεται, καὶ ἔσονται εἰς ὅρασιν πάσῃ σαρκί [IS., LXVI, 24].
