ταυτὶ δὲ δίκαια μὲν καὶ λυσιτελοῦντα τῷ τε ἄρχοντι τῇ τε πόλει, θά- νατον δέ, ὡς ἡ κοινὴ δόξα τῶν παρόντων, ἔχοντα τῷ λέγοντι, μαχόμενά γε τῇ τοῦ ὄχλου βουλήσει. καὶ γὰρ δὴ καὶ λίθοι ἦσαν οὐκ ἐν ὀλίγων χερσίν, εἴ τις ἐξαι- τήσεται· οἱ ὅπως οὐκ ἐπὶ τοῖς πρώτοις ἐπέτοντο ῥή- μασι, θαῦμα ἦν.
